Your Best Webinar Is Worth Three Months of Content
Here’s a familiar pattern. Your association lines up a great speaker, promotes the webinar for weeks, and gets a solid turnout. Afterward, the recording goes into the learning library. And that’s the end of it.
Meanwhile, your communications team is staring at an empty newsletter slot wondering what to write about.
That webinar was an hour of expert insight on a topic your members care about. It shouldn’t disappear after one airing.
Why this matters more than it used to
Associations are leaning hard on events, and the leaders know it’s risky.
- 62% of association CEOs call event dependency their biggest vulnerability. (Association Forum, FIRE Report, December 2025)
- 82% want hybrid access to learning and events. (FIRE Report)
- Generating non-dues revenue has been the No. 1 challenge for associations three years running, with 61% naming it in 2025. (2025 Association Benchmarking Report)
- The share of associations with stable or rising event attendance fell from 62% to 53% in a single year. (Marketing General, as reported by ASAE)
At the same time, professional development is the top reason people join an association in the first place. Your education content is your most valuable asset. It deserves a longer life.
The “Big Rock” approach
Content marketers have a name for this: the Big Rock. You create one substantial, valuable piece of content, then break it into many smaller pieces that lead people back to it. A webinar is a perfect Big Rock. It already has an expert, clear takeaways, and real questions from your audience.
Start with a webinar you’ve already recorded. Pick one that addresses a real pain point for your members, has a respected speaker, and included audience Q&A. Then break it apart with three goals in mind.
Goal 1: Keep current members engaged
- Short video clips, each focused on one takeaway
- A recap blog post or newsletter feature
- A one-page checklist members can print or save
- A follow-up post answering the questions the speaker didn’t get to
- Discussion prompts for your online community or chapter meetings
Goal 2: Attract new members
- Social graphics with a sharp quote from the speaker
- A free “key takeaways” guide that nonmembers can download in exchange for an email address
- A follow-up email inviting them to join for the full recording, or to register for a related class
This is especially useful because nonmembers mostly aren’t saying no to you. Nearly half don’t know an association in their field exists. Useful free content is how they find out.
Goal 3: Earn non-dues revenue
- Paid on-demand access for nonmembers
- A short course or bundle that earns continuing education credit
- A sponsor package that includes the logo on every follow-up piece, not just the live session
What one webinar can become
Done well, a single one-hour webinar can produce eight to twelve pieces of content: enough to fill your newsletter, social calendar, and blog for two to three months. Your staff doesn’t need to invent new topics. They need a plan for the ones you already have.
The same approach works for your annual conference sessions, research reports, and white papers.
What we build
We’ll take one of your recorded webinars and deliver a content map showing every piece it can become, where each one goes, and when. Then we write the first eight pieces with you, so your team has a working model to repeat.
