Your new members decide in 30 days.

Associations work hard to bring a member in. Then the calendar fills up, and the first month often gets a receipt and a login and not much else. Some members drift away before they see what their dues make possible. We help every member find that value, starting on day one.

Easy start vs. difficult start

  • 95% vs. 18% feel engaged, depending on whether getting involved as a new member was very easy or difficult. (Higher Logic, 2025)

  • 92% vs. 57% say membership is a good value. Same benefits, same dues. (Higher Logic, 2025)

  • 93% vs. 64% plan to stay five years or more. The difference is how the first stretch felt. (Higher Logic, 2025)

The first 30 days, done on purpose.

Most new members get a receipt and a login, because that’s all a busy team has time for. Here’s what we’d add.

  1. Day 1

A short, personal welcome within a day, linking straight to the two or three benefits that matter most to them.

  2. Week 1

A personal invitation to a chapter meeting or new-member coffee, and an introduction to one specific person.

  3. Month 1

One real use of a benefit: a webinar, a download, a question posted, a class registration.

  4. Day 30

A quick “How’s it going so far?” that catches problems while they’re still easy to fix.

What we put in place for the first 30 days.

  • A 30-day onboarding map

Every touchpoint in a new member’s first month, who sends it, and what it asks for.

  • A welcome email series

Plain, friendly emails that link straight to benefits, not to your homepage.

  • A “Start here” page

One page so new members and chapter leaders always know where to begin.

  • Ongoing care

Regular audits, content refreshes and engagement tracking, so the value stays visible all year.

After day 30.

  • Ongoing care

Regular content audits, refreshes and engagement tracking, so members keep seeing what they get for their dues all year, not just in the first month.

  • Chapter leaders, too

The people closest to members often can’t find their own part of the site. We give them a start-here page and a short checklist, so they can actually help.

They didn’t leave the mission. They couldn’t find the value.

In one exit survey we reviewed, former members said renewing was hard, resources they used to find had disappeared from the website, and they had to attend events in person to get information they needed. About a third of that association’s chapter leaders hadn’t yet found their way into their own section of the site.

Help every new member get one real result, fast.

Member Engagement, in practice

  • Isn’t retention a renewal problem?

Usually not. By the time the renewal notice goes out, most members have already decided. Among members who found getting involved very easy, 98% said onboarding was clear and helpful. That’s where we start.

  • We don’t have staff for an elaborate onboarding program.

You don’t need one. You need a few moments that happen reliably for every new member: a welcome, an invitation, one real use of a benefit, and a check-in. We set them up so they run without a lot of extra work.

  • What happens after the first 30 days?

We keep things fresh with regular content audits, refreshes and engagement tracking, so members keep seeing what they get for their dues, not just in the first month.
